Free to Good Home – e-Cycled.com
A couple of months ago I wrote about Matt Vapor’s wonderful initiative with CLiCK computer recycling.
Today I found out about another initiative along the same lines. It’s called e-Cycled.com, and has been set up by three environmentally conscious friends – Cameron Adams, Sandra Wang and Emma Rogers. Sandra Cameron is to be interviewed by John Stanley on 2ue this afternoon, around 2.40 pm (you can listen live).
e-Cycled.com was formed because the trio were fed up with seeing perfectly good appliances and furniture being thrown away on the street and going to landfill. They figured there had to be a market for the stuff that people didn’t want any more, and couldn’t be bothered going to the hassle of selling it.
They developed e-Cycled.com as a safe (no personal details need to be listed), FREE way to connect local people looking for such items. Their slogan is “Just because something isn’t worth selling, doesn’t mean it’s worthless”.
This is so very true. We live in a disposable society today. Drive around any neighbourhood on Council clean-up day – I’m always astounded at how much seemingly good stuff get’s thrown out (well, before others come around and collect). Charities will often not take something because it isn’t quite right (an example on the e-Cycled website is a filing cabinet that no longer had keys, but found a home in a garage for tool storage).
I remember my husband getting ruthless a few years ago, with a pram that was very bulky and which we no longer used. It was taking up too much room in the garage. We probably could have sold it, or certainly given it to charity, but in a clean up frenzy it went out on the kerb.
Sometime later, a couple of women in a station wagon stopped out the front & decided to have a closer look. They opened the pram up and decided it was worthy of collection, but then couldn’t collapse it again 😀 . They finally worked it out, just as I was about to go and show them how to do it.
Anyway (I digress), good luck to e-Cycled.com on their initiative.

I think that it is a MARVELOUS idea!! I hope that it is successful!
Congratulations to Cameron, Sandra and Emma. Yes, we do live in a disposable society, and that’s quite a shame. If it’s not new and shiney then it’s gotta go – bah. Where we live, our local hospital has set up a ‘store’ for those things unwanted and the proceeds from these sales, less overhead (all ’employees donate their time), go to support community needs, such as the women’s shelter, the indigent, etc. All the best to e-Cycled – great idea.

I have used http://www.freecycle.org a few times but we can always do with more diversion of waste!! Actually as an idea you guys should also let all freecycle members know that you have this site available!
