Easter Update to Top 100 Blogs Index

Published by at 8:45 pm under Top Australian Blogs

Hello :) Trusting you had a safe and happy Easter.

I had a few relatively relaxed days, which was nice for a change. Got to the Easter Show which was good.

Classic quote of the day came from Miss 7 as we were exiting one of the pavilions & she caught sight of a display.

“Bricks? What’s so artistic about bricks?”.

I laughed & explained they were fruit cakes (while imagining the wrath of dozens of scorned cake makers, for whom I daresay the competition would be a highlight of the year).

The display looked something like this. Image courtesy of James O’Brien.

The relaxed long weekend also gave me the opportunity to update my sadly neglected Top 100 list.  I just realised yesterday was the 2nd anniversary of my first attempt at a top 100 list. So there you go.

You might notice a new little button in my sidebar. I’ve never been a fan of the whole donation, buy me a beer kinda thing, but Duncan suggested it & I figured “heh, why not?”. Maybe someone out there appreciates the time that goes into the list…

So without further ado:

You know you’ve been out of the blogosphere for a while when….. you drop into Karen’s blog to see if she’s had any luck falling pregnant yet, only to find she’s not only been pregnant – but has actually had the baby! Congratulations :)

And on the downside….. you venture to read one of your favourite bloggers & a Most Awesome Chick only to find out she’s had a minor stroke. Hugs Kelley & glad to hear you’re on the mend.

thanks for the update Meg – looks like Alexa changed their algorithm recently which accounted for some of the rearranging of the order. Quick question – where’d you get the problogger technorati ranking – I think it’s a bit out. Not a biggieas I’m sure it doesn’t change the ordering but perhaps a small glitch.

    thanks again.

    Hi Darren

I was thinking the same thing about Alexa as there was quite a lot of movement. They might have readjusted their adjustment for “technology skew” – or what ever it was….

In relation to the Technorati rank it’s pulled down via an API (geez I think that’s what it’s called) as is Alexa rank & the script calculates the index – I just need to record the figures in a spreadsheet for upload.

It’s entirely possible that I copied that individual number across incorrectly (and that the index was correct), but when I did the query just then it returned a Technorati Rank of 37, so as you say there would be no change in the rank, but an improvement in your index.

Hey Meg, thanks for including me in the list. Now that I’m listed I reckon I will have to keep the standards up to make sure I stay on it or with a little luck even move up a little.

And a belated Happy Easter to you too! The fruit cakes being compared to bricks definitely makes my chuckle list…..perhaps some fruity garnish around the display would have added more relevance. It is quite strange how the human mind works, and association is key to avoid possible misyunderstandings like this one! Classic!

That’s cake? It really does look like a brick. If I look hard enough it almost looks like a BIG chocolate chip bar. But that mine be because I’m starving. :)

The gizmag emerging technology link is really cool! Green is the new black, and being more efficient and effective is really a must-do if us humans want to leave an inhabitable planet for our children and their children. A great link, they really have awesome content!

Hiya All! I was just checking back to see if there was any freesh updates onmy favourite Aussie blog! Please give us some more homegrown stories, as there are loads of Saffers that are eyeing emigration to Australia as a very real lifestyle choice, and are dying to get more close to the bone stories and reflections from real people, not some PR machine!

I was hoping for more updates too! Those picture are hilarious. The display looks so serious, especially because the term fruit cake is used in US to talk about people a little bit “off”.
