Matt Corby and Natalie Gauci – Idol Showdown

Published by at 9:33 pm under Australian Idol

What – no judging? Australian Idol just didn’t seem the same this week, which saw Matt and Nat competing for the ultimate prize.

Matt was up first with his rendition of what will be the “winner’s single” a song called “Here I am”. A solid performance.

Natalie up next with a (newly released?) song called “Apologise”. I didn’t know it, but thought she performed well enough. I didn’t like the dress, nor the gloves.

Matt’s second song was “High and Dry” by Radiohead. I thought it was a bit boring (a bit like this roundup 😉 ).

Natalie’s second song “Running up the Hill” by Kate Bush. I never particularly enjoyed that song when Kate Bush did it, but think Natalie’s performance was much better than the original.

Matt’s final song – I was really hoping he’d perform something with a bit of oomph, which he did. The song was “Mind’s Eye” by Wolfmother and was well received by the audience (and Mark Holden, who looked like he had touchdown withdrawal). Cool t-shirt with sunnies on them and the jeans – I said “How tight are those jeans? Man!” to which my daughter replied quick as a flash “juuuust right”.

Natalie’s final performance was her version of the winner’s single “Here I am”. She performed well, hard to split the two for their performances of this song. I thought the dress was totally wrong for her, and I have to confess I missed Kyle here – I’m sure he would have had some acerbic comment.

So that’s it – off to the Opera House for the grand finale next Sunday, which is touted as being quite a spectacular. Just one more Idol post, great news for the non-idol fans 😉

For reasons I’ve mentioned before, I’d like to see Matt win, but believe both are worthy of the title.

Who’s your pick?

I’m completely underwhelmed by tonights show. I hated all the songs. I still hope Matt wins because I think he’s more talented (in a well rounded way).

    Boring is right Meg 😉

Well you didn’t have a lot to work with either 😉 I though the whole show was a bit boring. I didn’t even watch to the end.

I could barely stay awake writing my post on Idol tonight. NOW we know why they have judges!

CB LOL – yes, by default it was almost “judges appreciation night” – you don’t know what you miss until it’s gone. Where’s the outrage, the controversy?

I thought tonights show fit right in with Dicko’s descriptives of bland and boring, and agree with you judges comments would have been great. They would not have been able to criticise the winners song probably a part of their contracts, if not it will be next year

I thought Natalie’s rendition was better then Matt’s.

As a non fan I am looking forward to the end of idle very much. Tv shows might even start running on time again!

And of course the damn election will be over too – so double bonus!

I haven’t been watching but the couple of half episodes I saw, Matt was always the stand-out for me.

Personally, I like Kate Bush’s Running up that Hill. Placebo had a cover of it on their 2006 album Ancienne Belgique. You would probably dislike that even more, but I’m quite fond of that version too.

I thought Natalie stood up to be counted last night. I actually enjoyed most of the songs, from both of them.

    But Matt will win.

    How boring was that show?
    YAWN.

If I was going to vote it would be for Nat but seeing as I’m not going to it doesn’t really matter.
The teeny boppers have rule of the idol world it seems.
Am I disappointed in this season? Yep.
Do I hope the won’t be another season?
    Yep again.

I miss Carl. At least there was someone entertaining when he was there… and lets not forget those dimples.

It really WAS boring. Really. I’m not looking forward to hearing that winner’s single on the radio twenty times a day after next Sunday! 😉

But honestly, I would’ve liked to see Carl’s version of the song.

Matt all the way! It’s so obvious he’s gonna win! Good for him too! He’s got so much going for him, and at the age of 17 too! Even if he doesn’t win, he’ll become famous!!!!
