Weekly Update 12th July

Pacific Highlander

3. Aussie Blog Post of the Week

Unfortunately, this isn’t a “great post” (no offense). But it is an example of how low the blogosphere can stoop. Definitely bad karma for this little dude, just starting out on his blogging adventure.

A 16 year old blogger decides to take on Alister Cameron, and call him – well, all sorts of names. I’d rather not link to the little “whippersnapper” but you can read Alister’s account at “I got flamed for my birthday” (who did post a link), or you can copy and paste this http://www.micahville.com/2007/07/11/the-snobosphere/. I’ve left a comment for Micah – I’ll give him the opportunity to moderate it.

(disclosure: I have previously consulted Alister on my websites, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I call him a friend :) ) .

4. MyBlogLog

Surprisingly, no word from MyBlogLog about the recent addition of community spam messaging. They said they’d give it a week – about 12 days ago. They have since announced an “opt out” from community messages option (thanks Leigh for the tip-off).

5. BlogCatalog

Just when I thought maybe it was time to get more active with BlogCatalog – eg, updated my profile, recategorised my blog, joined a few Aussie neighbourdoods, left some reviews etc – they went and lost data, and had to restore a backup from nearly a couple of weeks prior. I really don’t want to be too negative, but really that’s a long time for an active website – there would have been a lot of data loss in that time. To their credit , they handled it well (ie “we stuffed up” and we’re really sorry) and that makes all the difference.

They have also made a lot of changes to their website, surprisingly 6 days after the MBL community messaging incident, so too they have added “broadcasts” (slightly different in that this goes to your friends, not your neighbourhood). I daresay it was in the pipeline, but personally I’d have been inclined to see how the MBL incident panned out. So far, not too much abuse to report. Maybe bloggers are learning :)

Sorry about the lost data. hopefully we didn’t cause you too much inconvenience and you can bet we’re kicking ourselves for it.

Have you not seen the latest from MBL? They heard us, and have added an email opt out option for community messages. Way to go MBL!

Thanks Leigh. That’s only happened since I wrote this, as I checked their blog last night. Great! I’ve updated the post.

Good work on having the links in the list! Big improvement.
    Thanks

Thanks! It took a LONG time to set up, but will be easy to maintain now. Thanks for noticing :)

I’ve added this week’s new blogs to the html list. The files are now updated and are available here –

Not sure about the MyBlogLog thing and pretty unhappy about the BlogCatalog thing. As you’d be aware the scammers have found bumpzee recently, it’s only a matter of time before they find the other two.. :(

Hey Meg – great job you’re doing.

Very happy to have 2 blogs in the Top 100.

Flaming Alister as this little dweeb has done is just plain stupid. Deleting the post is even more dumb. Guess he should stick to MySpace before he grows up. :-)

Thanks Martin! I’ve been watching Small Office Australia edging closer & hovering just outside the top 100 for a few weeks – well done!

Re the dweeb – I grabbed screen shots, and I’m not afraid to use ’em 😉
