Susie – New Variety Show for Regional Australia

Yesterday I had the privilege of being in the first studio audience for the new variety show being produced by WIN Television, due to air next week.

The show is called “Susie” and is hosted by Susie Elelman, who has a long history with WIN and other television networks, various radio programs and is also the author of Half My Size.

It’s been many years since I’ve been in a TV Studio, and I find it fascinating watching what goes on behind the makings of a show. It was a lot of fun, with Susie entertaining the audience with jokes in between segments. And despite the fact that she had been filming all day, her ability to get each segment right the first time was truly mind blowing for me.

We saw Susie interview Wayne Gardner (who rode in on the smallest motorcycle I’ve ever seen), “Caftan Queen” Camilla Franks and the Idea of North (A Capella group) performed.

dLook have filmed a couple of 4 minute infomercials, which will be aired on the Susie show around the country. With the recent purchase of Channel Nine in Adelaide and Perth, WIN now has a regional audience of 8.2 million viewers, so it will be great exposure for online advertising in regional areas.

But the highlight of the evening for me was the opportunity to meet and chat with Bruce Gordon (who owns WIN Corporation), a gracious gentleman who’s incredibly excited about the Susie show.

Bruce spoke about how WIN Corporation has grown over the last eighteen years, and how immensely proud he is of his loyal staff, many of whom have been with the network since day one. You certainly get the feeling that WIN is like a close-knit family, with a lot of mutual respect.

Susie will be telecast across the WIN network from Monday 25th June, at midday on weekdays.

    Hey Meg

I’ve listened to Susie on the radio from time to time and when I read your post I simply had to watch the show.
You are right, she really is an entertainer although I thought the show was a bit too “chic flickish” but I don’t mind saying I really enjoyed it.
A breath of TV fresh air I reckon. Good on ya Susie, go get em.

    Hi Aussie4

Glad you enjoyed the show. Wish could have seen it – I would have like to have seen the Bert Newton segment in particular.

    Thanks for your feedback :)

Bruce Gordon is a superstar. So smart. Have friends who have met him a couple of times and they just some away like wow. He and Reg Grundy – old school media guys who are all class.

This is a great move by WIN. Proves to NINE that they won’t be bullied into a high priced affiliation agreement by producing their own unique content. Good news for viewers by having another Network/Production House working hard on new shows/formats.
