Google Webmaster Tools Now Reporting Anchor Text Links

Published by at 1:56 pm under Google Webmaster

Anyone that knows a little about search engine optimisation will recognise the importance of anchor text (the written words that link to your URL). John Chow certainly does, with yet another “evil” scheme to rank highly for the phrase “make money online” (no, I’m not going to play).

Today I read via Search Engine Land that Google Webmaster Tools are now reporting the top 100 phrases that link to your website.

To access these sign into Google Webmaster Tools, click on “statistics” and “page analysis” and there you have it.

I’m an avid user of the Webmaster Tools, and I think this is a very valuable addition. What I’ve looked at for dLook and Obits is very interesting so far…

Oh your right! That is much better than the previous information they provided on external links.

I too am an huge fan of Google webmaster tools, however my favourite tool is Google Analytics. 11:01am every morning (no im not borderline obsessive compulsive, thats when it updates, or am I?) I am straight in there checking out what happened the previous day. It’s all very exciting.

    Hi Luke

Nice to know I’m not alone 😉

Re Google Analytics – I probably *shouldn’t* tell you this, but we get pretty much real time tracking (well a couple of hours delay) – just by clicking on the current day on the calendar. Not sure why yours would be so behind?

Yeah i know but then it isnt in the nice graph showing yesterday and the day before. If i were receiving thousands of clicks per day THEN i would be more inclined to click the specific day. But my 20 – 50 visitors per day just doesnt warrent it.

That’s fair enough – but unless you log in at LEAST 6 times a day, then you don’t qualify for borderline OCD 😉

This will be a great tool for seeing at a quick glance why people are linking to you, where they’re linking and what they think about your site too!
