Re-vaulting

Published by at 11:47 pm under random

Tonight I watched a little of the men’s gymnastics. The vaulting to be precise. Very awesome, I’ll give them that.

But what’s with the spitting on the hand thing? I’m guessing it’s for like, grip or something. So, OK maybe I can get past that.

What I find absolutely repulsive is the double dipping! I swear, this one gymnast spat in his hands and then rubbed them back in the chalk. Seriously NOT cool. I’d be demanding fresh chalk.

And then – this other dude comes up, sticks his hands in the chalk, and then LICKS his hands. Eeeewww. He obviously missed the double dip.

Am I just being germophobic, or does that gross you out too?

I must say I didn’t notice… I was um, too distracted by the arms. And the shoulders.

Oh and the mens rings? Rawr.

Watched the whole thing last night and then again todays replays. At work. When I was supposed to be um, working, and stuff…

    Rawr.

I had a friend back in the old days who was a competitive gymnast, and I seem to recall (although, I might be wrong here), that he told me the “spitting on the hands thing” was actually to keep their hand-guards from becoming dry and brittle.

Not that this excuses the double-dipping thing at all… just providing more info is all 😛

Yeah, that’s definitely a bit off! I guess the next time I make it to the Olympics, I’ll take my own chalk… :)

Well I guess they are more interested in the grip than in hygiene at that point of time…
