The one where Meg waits three years for ADSL

Published by at 12:07 am under internet

I used to have fast broadband. Then my account was migrated to a new billing system and I lost the use of my very own cable modem and am now relegated to sharing a wi-fi connection.

I laugh at the irony of seeing a certain commercial where the six occupants in a tri-level house enjoy the use of the internet at the same time. I’m sure it works in the majority of houses unless, of course, you happen to have a massive concrete slab and a few walls in the way.

Anyhoo, call me a broadband snob – but sharing a wi-fi connection is just not fast enough.

So I figure I’ll look at the ADSL option. Again. Who knows, maybe things have changed in a year. So I made an application to an ISP yesterday and thought I’d login and check the status. It is not looking good….

ADSL

2011… I’m seriously hoping this is a system glitch 😀

Hmmm… I know you’re hoping for this to be a glitch Meg, but with my past experiences… well, that could very well be the truth!

    Hi Meg,

I sympathise with the lack of Internet speed but I’m also smiling that the Google ads that I’m seeing are for concrete floors and concrete slabs :)

Ummm just had a thought – are all the computers networked together or are they running separately???? If they are networked you can get internet access with one modem and one account.

Wish I could do one of those shocked smileys here but I am so computer illiterate I would have no idea. Along with the whole how to get faster internet access. I just yell at MPS and he does stuff and it is fixed and I am calmer and just stare at my pretty shoes.

Sometimes it is just easier that way and I am shielded from such atrocities.

I am hoping that it is a technical error and they actually mean today around 11…

I feel your internet-related pain. We only have one affordable internet option in our area, and it might be starting a tiered payment system soon. Plus, our rates just went up. ARGH! I have to make my fiancé call and threaten to cancel so that they’ll lower them again.

Don’t worry Captain Kevvie and the new broadband thingy will have you set up in a tick. Are you in a marginal electorate? Can you change things so that you are???

With that sort of service, it sounds like you may be using my ISP too 😉

No need to worry, the 11/11/2011 is actually just a filler date used on all orders.

I don’t think you’re being a snob. Its true that broad band is much faster and more efficient than any other system of getting on the net.

Oh dear are there any good isp’s in Australia? We’ll be heading to Sydney soon and can’t wait for months to get a broad band service. Optus any good?
