I had a great idea for a blog post…

Published by at 2:03 am under family

… but then I forgot what it was.

Don’t you hate that?

These days, even if I DO get a good idea, there’s no time…

I have been seriously busy. I mean 15-16 hours a day, 7 days a week busy. I miss blogging. I miss visiting you guys. I’d be in serious withdrawal, if not for the fact that I’m too busy to feel anything much.

Even hunger goes unnoticed, until 3 or 4 pm when I realise I haven’t had lunch (or breakfast, but I’ve NEVER been a breakfast person. Mum, please spare me the lecture – I never did faint at the train station).

Anyhow, a symptom of my busyness has been lots of shenanigans from my youngest. Broken glass (two lots – including a cut finger), paint and self inking stamps and PERMANENT marker on the carpet. Yes she gets bored, and lacks self control.

And Ted (the class bear) came to visit on the weekend. Ted’s been to some really exciting places this year (he keeps a scrap book journal that every mum kid fills in). So reading about Ted’s excellent adventures (sans Bill), we decided that Ted needed a quiet weekend of R & R. Or that was my excuse and I’m sticking to it…

We did manage a pretty cool Teddy bear’s picnic. And a bike ride. I ask you, could Ted be any more laid back (without falling off the bike)?

Ted

Anyway, after reading about Ted’s adventures we decided to do one better (to compensate for Ted’s boring weekend of R&R) and make a video courtesy of my really nifty Flip Video.

This gadget is so cool. Just a little bit bigger than mobile phones were a couple of years ago – with 1 GB of storage (about an hour of video) and they run on 2 AA batteries. Flip up the USB connector on the side, and within minutes your video can be shared via email or YouTube (or snuck into a business listing on dLook). I am in awe.

These gadgets retail for less than $132 US on Amazon (what’s that $AUD 50 137 plus postage) and are rumoured to have captured 15% of the video camera market in the US.

Where was I … oh yes, so if you can’t dazzle ’em with excitement – impress the sox off ’em with technology – or something like that.

**************

Miss 6 did manage to floor me over the weekend – twice. She was telling me how one of the boys in her class pushed over one of the girls, so she told me she went up to the boy and asked him why he did it. Her response:

“He hypothesised that he must have been running too quickly and accidentally bumped into her”.

😮

Then, a day later, she mentioned “capillary action” – not to be confused with caterpillary action (complete with gestures). It seems her first class are studying plants…. Yeah, what was that in my day – year 8 science?

Wednesday brings parent/teacher interviews for my (year 12) son, who got his report today, and I have to say overall it’s very pleasing (1st in 3 subjects, 3rd and 4th in two others and we won’t mention maths…ok).

Also (yep, same night) subject selection for next year for my daughter who’s in year 10. She wants to do chemistry, biology and physics, as well as 3u English and 3u maths. It seems the school doesn’t want students to do more than 2 science subjects – and I don’t think it’s a scheduling thing. Sigh…

Well, that’s probably enough rambling for 2 a.m.

Hey Meg… I feel your pain. Lately I’ve been just so swamped at work that the blogging is taking a serious hit… which is a pity, as it was just starting to get into a regular swing :(

That’s the first time I’ve heard of a Flip Video… mind me asking what the video quality is like on them? I mean, is it better than your average phone quality?

I hate forgotten ideas. I scribble them down in shorthand on post-it notes, send emails to myself if I’m away from base, whatever. So far most ideas I have forgotten, that I’ve not written down, usually come back to me. Even if it’s sometime later… and I’ve gone on to explore some variation of the idea without recalling the original one!

Hope the parent/teacher interviews go well and that you get something sorted with your elder daughters subjects.

Your Miss 6 is a real little character isn’t she! lol

Ted certainly looks very laid back. And your daughter has exactly the same bike as my daughter – gee some people have great taste don’t they???? :)

Hope you manage to get through the busy stage OK, and I know what you mean about not eating – I do the same thing when I am stressed and busy.

Hope you manage to get the permanent marker out of the carpet – try some metho or dry cleaning fluid (send one of the older kids to get some from the Chemist for you).

Good luck too with the parent teacher interview and subject selection. Hope your daughter gets to do what she wants and that Uni options aren’t limited by the school’s position on subject selection.

*snort* that happens to me all the time! I have the best ideas in the shower. Especially when I am washing my hair, which takes AAAAGES and by the time I get out, nothing.

Moo has her exams next week. She all meh about it and I am freaking out!

Hope things are slowing down for you babe, busy is good but sustained busy is not!

yes happens here too … I sometimes want to get up in the middle of the night instead of squandering the idea to sleep.

My youngest are always into things when I am busy .. blogging.
Sounds like your eldest are on track for academic success and Miss 6 a budding genius.

I’m a huge procrastinator, but I never procrastinate lunch. I just can’t! I really wish food was something I could overlook. It would make dieting so much easier.

Oh, my dear, can I relate to you! Both the either working till 2 am or can’t sleep at 2 am… and the constantness of having ‘a little one’ who is ‘so cute’, not even misbehaviing that much, but oh boy, SO MUCH WORK, I barely have time to blog/ do ‘real’ work/do something for myself.

That said, she’s in bed (Canada time) and I’m here now, surfing bloggospace, and finally relax, before I ‘hammer out’ another article for my blog.

Ah yes, the forgotten idea. I get my best ideas swimming laps up and down the pool. Nowhere to write them down either.

Mind you I do have a list of 4 ideas here I’m still to work through, not to mention the two drafts that are in the final stages of editing.

Um what was I going to say….?

    Oh yeah. :)

I bought a Flip and thought it was great for a while but I haven’t used it in ages – if I do a video it’s usually with my point and click camera (Canon Ixes).

    But they are cute.

I know what you mean about missing visiting. Each night this week, I have had trouble with my server and have had to deal with those issues and the back log of work that this causes. This is the first chance this week, I have had to get out and check out other blogs and I have missed it.

I hate when I forget what I wanted to blog about! Drives me nuts.

Also, I was just wondering if you had my new URL for the Top 100 Aussie Blogs list. I’m not sure if I ever gave it to you.

I so relate to your post! I am always having good ideas for posts but either: 1. forget them, or 2. run out of time to write them. Work is super busy at the moment, and I kind of need to concentrate on that (since it pays the bills). But since starting my blog a few months ago, I’ve become addicted and really miss it when I can’t get around to it. Have also become addicted to checking out other Aussie blogs. Hope I make it into your list one day!

I have a cell phone with video on it so when I cant scribble and jot note, I make a quick video and remind myself . Most often those ideas pop up while at my day job or out at some event etc. Never when I want to write.

Getting free time to ever write though, can be quite the challenge.

You know I usually get my ideas when it is next to impossible to write them down. And some times the turn of phrase that came so naturally when you were thinking about it on the loo just won’t work out when you are sitting at the computer.

Meg I’ve been reading your last 5 or so posts that i have missed, and they have all rung true to me.

To put it into perspective, just before last Christmas i went to the trouble of buying my first domain, and then dealing with the wonderful snoskred to get it hosted (who really helped me out initially- and reminds me i should get back in contact with her to offer thx).

Now 7 months later I have finally found the time to do some site design and get some initial content up…

Where oh where does the time go?
