Thomas Beatie and Lee Mingwei – Pregnant Men?

Published by at 6:15 pm under random

Ok, so what do you think about men having babies? Sounds like something out of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie hey?

Now I can understand why you’d think this isn’t a new phenomenon – case in point:

And it seems that there are even support groups for such men:

But, no. This is a new phenomenon according to today’s top read story on News. A transgender man (i.e. born a female, now living as a male, but with reproductive organs intact), Thomas Beatie is currently five months pregnant. He is living legally as a male and is legally married to his wife.

But he’s not alone! The article cites another case – Mr Lee Mingwei. Mr Lee Mingwei is reportedly being treated at RYT Hospital which is affiliated with Dwayne University Medical College.

Interesting though, that a cursory search for RYT Hospital and Dwayne University Medical College really doesn’t yield much information, and the “hospital” doesn’t display an address or telephone (that I could find) – only an email contact form. Interesting also to note that the documentary about the case was uploaded to youtube some 18 months ago. Surely even men wouldn’t gestate that long? Hmmm.

What do you think – hoax or real?

What I do know is that I don’t think one can rely on a photo of a man with a large belly as “proof” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you think society is ready for men to have babies?

Nice find on the ‘old’ pregnancy of Mr Lee Mingwei, defiantly sounds like a hoax there, especially with the dodginess you uncovered. I’m kinda unsure of Thomas Beaties though, sounds like it could be possible.

I really don’t know what to think of the whole Male pregnancy thing either.

Maybe they do gestate for that long – they’re putting off labour because they know they will never cope with the pain. We’ve seen them with a cold, imagine labour pains……..

There is no way that this world is ready for men to have babies – the thought is terrifying for so many reasons :)

Is society ready for men to have babies?
Maybe not but I know a few truckloads of women who’ve got the fridge full of beer, cigars stocked up and their feet up on a coffee table just waiting for the day they can share the joys of pregnancy and childbirth with their men folk ๐Ÿ˜‰

That first pic made me vomit a little.

But it was latte flavoured so not all bad ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just the thought of hairy bellies wearing skimpy belly hugging tops and the belly button pointing out….

Damn, that time it wasn’t so latte flavoured.

I’m trying to be tactful, but if there’s still a vagina, uterus, and ovaries I’d say He’s still technically female… manly… but still female none the less. And as we learn in grade school science, women do get pregnant.

I don’t know about society, but I am not ready for pregnant men. They already complain more than we do when they’re ill, so can you imagine during pregnancy? On the other hand: if men for once could experience the joys of labour, lol.

There is no way men are ready to have babies! NO WAY!
Pain threshold aside (nil) imagine their expectations when they had ‘birthed’ the babe. We’d never get them off the lounge. Either that or we would have to pay for it for the rest of our lives. There would be no peck on the lips and ‘good job babe’ Oh no, that would never be good enough. There would be some mammoth payout expected. Sexual servicing without complaint for, oh, say, FOREVER.
Women are not ready for men to have babies. No way, Not Ever.

Interesting. I did see something on the news about this the other day. I’m with EQ. If they still have all the girly bits then they aint really boys having bubs, still, I’d hate to have to explain it to the kids of these people.

Seriously Thomas anatomically has female parts but HE is is MAN. Your genitals do not make YOU, nor do hormones… obviously nature thinks in more than either male or female, are we that ignorant to only be able to think in only one of either categories of male or female? Are garden slugs and clownfish ( and other sex changing animals) smarter than us to be able to understand this?

Although it’s a little too much for my personally, I think Beatie has the right to do what he wants with his body, no matter how many of us think i’ts wrong or bizarre or whatever.

There is a difference between being female and being a Woman. One is a definition of your physical body, the other is a definition of your identity. And yes, there can be male bodied women and female bodied men. Ice cream can come in a cup or in a cone.

Considering Mingwei is a performance artist, I think we have our answer on that one…
