Update on the Top Aussie Bloggers

Published by at 11:09 am under Australia,Australian Blogs, blogging

Well it certainly has been an eventful couple of days. I can finally come up for air.

It seems that a “List” brings out a few different types of people;

  1. Those that are happy to be on the list
  2. Those that didn’t make it, but appreciate the fact that the list exists
  3. Those that weren’t included, should have been, and quietly raise their hand in the appropriate place, and ask “What about me”?
  4. Those that weren’t included, should have been, and whinge about it – but couldn’t be bothered mentioning it to the “someone” who had compiled the list
  5. Those that want to rubbish the content of the bloggers who did make it.

This list was never intended to be controversial, or create a division within the Australian blogging community. I don’t think it is appropriate to criticise the topic of a blog. Each blog has its following of people interested in that topic. Whether it’s food, photography, politics, parenting or about blogging itself. We all have our interests. Some pompous elitists just don’t get that.

Furthermore I would like to add that the formula will not work if a blog doesn’t have a Technorati Ranking. Visit Technorati to claim your blog.

Special thanks to:
Craig Harper, Darren Rowse, Alister Cameron and Duncan Riley for their support and Scott Yang for providing script that is going to make updating this list so much easier.

And all the other bloggers who have left wonderful supportive comments.

The index has been updated. This blog is not on it. I have excluded myself.

I can only start to imagine what you’ve had to cop on this. And my personal view is that if your blog ranks according to the criteria, it should be in – the basic principle being ‘stuff ’em if they can’t take a joke’.

What I believe is self-evident and for which you deserve plaudits not whingeing, is that you’ve made a lot of us aware of a lot of other Aussie bloggers in various fields, which I for one think is great.

As the saying goes: you done good, played through :)

    Thanks for your efforts.

I think it’s a case of people in both the business and political blogosphere being shocked about the fact that ‘the other side’ exists. Since your list emerged I’ve discovered (and corresponded with) Darren Rowse, who I’d never heard of – my daily reads were all politics/economics/culture blogs. He’s a great find, and I’m really wrapped that the two ‘halves’ of Ozblogistan can now start to cooperate.

    Should be interesting!

Thanks for your comment. Perhaps we can all broaden our horizons a little…

If there are other blogs on your reading list that you think should be included please let me know (my email address is on the “about me” page).

Thanks for compiling this list — obviously a lot of time, effort and thinking goes into this soft of thing. Keep up the good work … you have given me plenty more to check out and read!

Sorry you hear you have been coping some unpleasantness over the list Meg. For the majority your hard work is very much appreciated :)

I agree with Des, if your blog ranks, it should be in the list! Stuff what anyone else says.

    Hi Greg

Thanks for being a number 2 – oh wait, that didn’t come out right 😉

There are so many great Aussie blogs, I’m having lots of fun finding them.

I appreciate your comments – and you made my Reader :)

    Fantastic work Meg,
How the blogs are ranked or who made the top 100 is probably not the important part, the important part is the awareness your bringing to Australian blogs and the blogging community here.

Hopefully the community networks a little more, grows some more and reduces that ‘noise’.

Also, I know you have put a lot work into this are you ok with me working through this list to review those sites and add them to the blogs section on my Australian website directory?

    Hi Rod

    Thanks for your feedback.

Absolutely, and thanks for asking :)

    Thanks Meg,
might be worth checking your blog in IE It freaks out a bit at the main index, might be an oversized image.

    Rod.

    Thanks Rod

I’d be interested to know which IE? It seems fine in 7.0.5

  14. Rodon 26 Apr 2007 at 12:54 pm

    I really should update! 6.0.2900.2180

  15. Megon 26 Apr 2007 at 12:58 pm

LOL! Even my Mum has updated – actually she much prefers FireFox now 😉

  16. Rodon 26 Apr 2007 at 7:03 pm

Yeah Im Firefoxed too, just use IE for testing. On another note Ive just added those blogs up to my directory and if anyone’s looking for an OPML to import into a reader theres one posted here: http://www.list-directory.info/dir/blogs/ . It’s actually quite an enjoyable journey visting all those blogs ranging from food (with pictures that made me hungry!), politics and through to IT/web related.
