The Great Mofo Delurk

The Great Mofo Delurk 2007

I first read about this from Katie and then Missy, and I thought it sounded fun. The idea behind Mofo delurk day is just as it sounds – encouraging people who lurk to drop by and say “hi”. I know it’s late in the day (in Australia), but don’t let that stop you.

Wanna play along?

The question is “what is your favourite….”?

Suggestions: tv show, meal, cuisine, drink, colour, song, band, book, author, actor, movie…. you get the idea (pick one to fill in the blank, and answer in the comments).

It would really mean a lot.

Happy Mofo delurk day

(P.S. While you’re here would you mind answering the poll in my sidebar, near the top? Just trying to find out a little more about visitors here – thanks in advance)!

Update: comments are flying over at Dingo’s got my Barbie. Willowtree also points out (point 12):

Don’t refer to non commenting readers as lurkers. This is a derogatory term that goes back to the alt.binaries newsgroup days when people who only looked at the dirty pictures and didn’t post their own, were called lurkers. Although it has taken on a less sordid meaning these days, but it’s still a bit rude. They are all readers, some comment, some don’t. Don’t forget, you’re trying to get them to comment, and insulting them may not be the best way achieve that goal.

I had no idea!

    Hi Meg

I was a little confused about this until I clicked on the widget and it all made sense. So basically you want to kick start this on your blog with some of your readers favourites.

Ok here goes…I hope I’m doing this right….

My favourite TV show is Summer Heights High. I know its not everyone’s cuppa but Chris Lilley is a genius comedian who definetly strikes a chord with some of his cringe-worthy characters.

    :)

Peter – thanks for clarifying my really vague instructions! You did it just perfectly :)

That show has really gained some popularity, hey? Boon for the ABC..

    Thanks for being the first.

Favourite TV show would have to be The Colbert Report (US) and The Chaser’s War on Everything (Aus)
Fave drink is coke – my only advice in lieu of coffee, cigarettes, etc!

    :o)

My favourite colour is blue. It can be calming, cooling, peaceful but it can also be vibrant, electric and dark.
    Happy delurking day.

My favourite blog of the days is yours Meg. In Australia I like Coopers Beer, Fish and Chips, Cricket on the Radio, some nice sunny weather, some sand and sea and some good company.

In Scotland I like Greenmantle Beer, White Pudding Suppers, Scottish Ceilidh Music, New snow a big fire and good company.

What is your favouriteรขโ‚ฌยฆAussie blogger…that would have to be Meg ๐Ÿ˜€

Yours would have to be about the only blog I DON’T lurk at LOL

Results of the poll are interesting so far.

Hmmm….my fav? Its hard to say fav anything.

My favourite movie of 1993/4 was Tombstone, thanks to Val Kilmer. I had a somewhat dangerous obsession with him – you know, before he got fat………..

Rah – caffeine is a godsend in any form!

Snoskred – hey mate (BTW – I had to fish you out of Akismet). I’ve don’t mind The West Wing myself.

Tiffany – a fellow “delurkee”. You know, I’ve never really had a favourite colour. It always stumps me when the kids ask.

Colin & Leigh – nice brownie points ๐Ÿ˜‰ (now why didn’t I offer that as a suggestion?) Thanks ๐Ÿ˜€

Colin – your ideal day out in Australia? Going to the beach with family and friends, eating fish & chips, listening to the cricket on the radio and washing it all down with Coopers. Seems you’ve adapted to the lifestyle nicely :)

Leigh – AND it’s appreciated :) Re the poll – do you think it’s ambiguous? Don’t laugh! Maybe people are thinking it’s a test & I’m asking a question about ME (the author)?

  10. Megon 03 Oct 2007 at 6:39 pm

Karen – I’ve never seen that. I usually struggle with favourites too you know that ONE thing…. I figured it was just me.

Is it sad that I had to hesitate and think before submitting my “female” poll vote?

No idea why. I think the fact I’ve been sitting in front of the laptop all day doing an assignment is making me crazy. (Yes, I did sneak a blog entry in, but shhh, don’t tell my professor!)

I’m delurking. I tend to lurk over here a fair bit, although I do comment, but not as much as I should. I should make a better effort! Looks like you’ve got a lot of lurkers coming out of the lurking closet though!

Oh and my favourite food is ice-cream. Mmmm.

  12. Kinon 03 Oct 2007 at 7:17 pm

Oh my I can’t narrow anything down to favourites. My favourite tv shows are Buffy and Gilmore Girls. Movies are Love Actually, The Princess Bride, 10 Things I Hate About You, Pirates of the Carribean, the list goes on.

Oh and I’m hardly a lurker, but I’ve been quiet lately, on everyone’s blogs, just because I’m running out of time….

Akismet should be beaten to a pulp. Someone has obviously taken a dislike to me and keeps marking my comments as spam because I put a link to my blog in my comments – I do it on blogger blogs mainly but I get so busy making comments I don’t pay attention to what kind of blog it is.. :( That then means they are spam on all blogs using Akismet. :(

    Cheers,
    Snoskred

Thanks Katie – every delurker puts a smile on my face :)

I agree with you, I “lurk” on over 200 blogs and should make more of an effort to comment. I’m always hesitant to add a “me too” or “that was a great post” type comment, so if I don’t feel I’m adding value then I don’t.

While it would go un-noticed on a big site, we “little type” bloggers certainly do relish knowing that there are people “out there” – at least skimming what we write ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for posting about this, which got me started in the first place – good luck with your assignment.

  15. Megon 03 Oct 2007 at 7:32 pm

Hey Kin – always appreciate your comments. I really enjoyed “Love Actually” – reckon I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen it.

Snos – yes it was a surprise to see it there!

My favourite Band is Motley Crue – yup, a teenage crux I’ve carried with me. :-)

My fav drink is Ouzo & Coke.

My fav movie is a tie between “breakfast at tiff’s” and “when hary met sally”.

My fav author is Hunter S. Thompson

    I’m a mixed bag, eh. ๐Ÿ˜‰
