The Power of the Blog
Woot! Today marks a month of blogging – do I qualify as a “preblogger” yet?
What have I learnt (or is that learned?) in a month of blogging? Gee glad you asked ;).
- Blogging is time consuming, especially when you’re not particularly creative (hence the drab look of this blog and shoddy graphics).
- There are so many great blogs out there it’s hard to be selective.
- Because there is so much good stuff – it’s very easy to suffer “information overload”. This is also a major distraction for getting REAL work done.
- Coming up with ideas for a post is hard (see also point 1).
- Having a story that generates a lot of traffic, whilst exciting, creates pressure to do it again.
- It’s easy to get obsessed with all things bloggie.
- MyBlogLog is a great resource
- It’s not necessary to predetermine WHAT your blog is going to be about (a theme, if you like) this will evolve as you find yourself writing about what interests you the most.
- Pulling a post generates more attention than the original post would have got
- Blogging and Bloggers have their own special community, which is largely made up of wonderful people
(Inspiration: This is my list but was inspired by 10 Things I’ve Learned in One Week of Blogging)
In all honesty, when I started this blog, apart from being something I have wanted to do for a while, there was a small commercial agenda. Not of the “hard sell” type, more of the “hey! I think we have a great product (service) come and have a look”. The time I invest in this blog is partly to compensate for advertising dollars that we just don’t have. I hope that in the process I can write about interesting, Australia-centric and useful stuff.
We have been contacted by a few people in the Australian IT arena who have said – “hey, good luck – how can I help?” One of these people was Cameron Reilly of The Podcast Network, who knows only too well the frustrations that internet startups face, especially in Australia. Cameron generously gave of his time to interview Theo about dLook, and for that show of faith we are very grateful.

Hi Henno
Thanks for stopping by
You are doing great, and I am sure it is giving your business a lot of useful exposure
Hi Andy
Thanks for your encouragement. I’m a faithful reader of yours and deeply envious of your sleek graphics – one day I’ll figure it out…..
You make very good points, Meg. Yet with content like yours you have nothing to worry about. Keep up the good work and I am sure you’ll reach all your goals.
I have been blogging for about a month too – and the surprising part is how much it has evolved into something totally different from what I originally intended. Great post!
