Welcome to my new blog!

Published by at 11:42 pm under random

It’s not quite finished yet and there are a few broken bits (and I have to finish the blogroll too).

Let me know what you think. I’m too exhausted to write any more :(

Looks good – all brand new and with a .com.au name and all!

Looks great Meg. I know how exhausting it can be redesigning a site. Looks like you’ve got through the hardest part. :)

Your new site looks great Meg! It’s always rewarding and exciting when you finally take off the covers and let the world see your latest creation!

It’s nice to meet you in the “land down under!”

Thanks for your positive feedback guys – I needed it :)

Greg – yes a real Aussie domain!
    Dan1el – I should hope so!
Leigh – there must have been some delay in the feed, it was about midnight (but a following an early morning and a bad night sleep)
Anne and Daniel – thanks for your feedback and dropping in (weekend’s over unfortunately)!

Very smart move! I love when blogs move or update their design it always feels so fresh and shiny.

Have updated 3-4 links so that they’re pointing here now.

    Does wordpress.com allow you to set-up re-directs?

Also, the process you went through to make the move would make a great tutorial for other bloggers wanting to make the switch from hosted platform to their own domain.

Very nice! Oh to have your view!

  9. Megon 07 May 2007 at 11:05 am

Hi Anthony – well that remains to be seen (about the smart move). But I’m excited about not having the “ugliest” blog around 😉 Many thanks for updating the links.

Re WordPress.com – I thought so, but now I’m not so sure (which is a bugger). I’m still looking into it.

I’ve been taking notes and do intend to do a tutorial, as you say.

Luke – actually this is the view from our old house (50 metres away) – new one has a slightly different perspective, but still nice :)

It’s all good .. doesn’t matter much to me though as I view your blog mostly through bloglines.

I am so happy to see you finally taking the plunge and moving to your own domain

  13. Megon 07 May 2007 at 7:04 pm

    Hi Andy

Thanks – and one of my first plug-ins was “dofollow” finally (thanks your posts were a very handy reference)

Nice job, Meg! It looks very clean and shiny. I love the pink accents… and that view.

    Yay for new beginnings!

    Nice work :-)

However you need to fix your a:hover code in the stylesheet because when my mouse hovers over the links across the top (Home, About me etc) the link becomes white text on a white background

I suspect its caused by the bit of css at

    #menu ul li a:hover

    Hi Neerav

Thanks! One of the pesky things I needed to change (but decided to live with for the time being). You were quite right I had to replace with this:

    #menu ul li a:hover {
    color: #E0249A;

    Many thanks :)

    Hey Meg,

    Looks great! 😀

  18. Rodon 08 May 2007 at 12:42 pm

Very wise move. Your blog was too good to be on someone else’s subdomain! I’ll fix up your listing in my dir.

Ps: dont forget to tune up your robots.txt

  19. Megon 08 May 2007 at 12:52 pm

    Thanks Matt!

Rod – thanks for your comment (shucks). I did upload a robots.txt file yesterday with the following

    User-agent: *
    Disallow:

Is there something I’m missing or was that just a general reminder?

  20. coachon 08 May 2007 at 9:00 pm

Very nice, very clean design. Love the banner photo.

sometimes you need to block out dupe content with wordpress but with a closer look, your using snippets on your category and archive pages so probably ok.

Just read your next post, and yep the big downside to wpress, blogger etc you have no control. I see so many people build up a great site to realise it has no or little value (cant sell it, trade it, lease it, cant use the links, at their mercy etc etc.). Although in their defense you can set up your own domain name with blogger now for free, wpress too but it costs.
