Nap-Man

Published by at 1:32 am under Humour, random

Power nap

Nap-man. Faster than a sneezing rabbit, more powerful than a remote-control, able to leap lego buildings in a single bound…

Power-napping, micro-snooze, nanna-nap, call it what you will. One minute they are spagged out relaxing on the lounge fascinated by the documentary, how-to or cricket, the next minute – zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Yes, I think I have snooze envy. The ability to switch off the brain at a minute’s notice. Nothing else exists. The sound of children playing – gone! The phone ringing – gone! The to-do list five miles long – gone!

Surely it’s attached to the “Y” chromosome?

Maybe it’s a throw-back from caveman days? Seriously. Being out hunting all day. Needing to sleep when they can. When danger isn’t imminent.

Or maybe it’s a battle thing? You know, you can’t always bunk down for eight hours when you’re fighting. Got to catch a power-nap when you can.

I simply CANNOT do it. Well, unless I’m pregnant. Or really sick.

IF I was to go off for a nap in the middle of the day – you can count me out for about 3 hours. About 45 minutes to fall asleep, and then an hour and a bit of sleep, and then the remainder to wake up and become functional again.

Sigh. Is it just me?

Ladies, can YOU power nap? Guys, do you NOT power nap?

I can not power nap to save myself. My Dad spent years trying to show me how to get in a 10 minute power nap as apparently it does amazing things for you if you power nap during your work lunch break. Nope, nada, zip, zilch, just ain’t happening here baby.

Hubby can fall asleep anywhere, anytime, but that is more due to his sleep apnea.

I wish I could powernap. Would make a world of difference some days.

If I’m a passenger in a car, it takes all my energy not to nod off, no matter how much sleep I’ve had. Generally any journey where I’m a passenger that goes for 15 mins or more, ends in me snoring. Fortunately I don’t have the same problem when I’m behind the wheel!

I power nap most days, only about 15mins and it’s not really a deep sleep. Any longer and you feel crappy.

I have the same problem in a car, no matter how much I try to fight it.

I can’t power nap unless I’m really exhausted and I know that my son is safe and not noisy. I do, however, lie on my bed to read a book and then close my eyes for a bit until I start thinking of all the things I should be doing.

Oh how I wish I could! I think I did a post sometime about how easily MPS can sleep…. stairwells at nightclubs, floor of hospitals, standing up.

Most family get togethers have a photo of MPS asleep. And if there is no photo it is only because I forgot the camera….

I have stumbled this cause 1. It is so true. 2. It is so funny and you know I am all about the funny 😉 and C. cause I am wielding my new stumbling powers. Just gotta find the shoes to go with it. Green I am thinking…. or perhaps a subtle aqua?

As a member of the “caveman” set, it pains me to admit that NO… I cannot find myself able to achieve that lofty status of “powernapper”.

Try as I might (particularly during camping trips, music festivals etc) my mates will all be able to have a bender in the morning, then powernap and take on the afternoon all over again, while I am resigned to simply staring glumly at all these damn nappers!

You might have snooze envy but I have smiley envy!!!!!! 😉

I know exactly what you mean!!!! I usually take ages to get to sleep and daytime sleeps often make me feel worse (if I do manage to drop off).

Nope not me.. a nap has to be at least 2 hours long, then it takes ages for me to wake back up again *sigh* then I can’t sleep that night…

I can’t powernap to save myself, but I love the way kids lie down and fall fast asleep.

Oh, I can´t Nanna nap either – it takes me too long to go to sleep and once I do its a few hours later and I feel worse than before. I do miss the days of my first pregnancy when the house was quiet and I could happily nap most of the afternoon. Now if I have a free moment, it´s blogging instead of napping 😉

I also have snooze envy, and last I looked I possessed the Y chromosome. My envy though is that most people gain some benefit from a snooze. I do not due to having sleep apnea, so even though I may sleep and snooze it does nothing for me. Hence, I am a bit of a night owl these days with the tooth picks keeping my eyes open and power sleep when I know I will simply switch off.

I can nanna-nap but only in the smothering hot weather, it’s a survival instinct I think lol.
    I’m a foggy-headed, brain-dead snappy cow if I try to nanna-nap any other time 😉

I’m incapable of napping. Can only sleep at the end of the day and once it is dark. Very good at sleeping in though :)

If I had the time, I could nap ANYWHERE.

I never used to be able to close my eyes even for a minute if it was daylight outside, but now? I’m getting snoozy in my old age. 😛

Oh Meg, you just described my husband!

Like you I can’t nap. Even if I do manage to get a nap, it is interrupted by small people who need things. WHen Dave is napping everyone tiptoes around… ‘shhhhhh, Daddy’s asleep, he must be very tired’. Hello????? Who was up all night with the sleepless child??? Not him, he was napping!

  19. Gregon 17 Jan 2008 at 10:07 pm

Definitely not a power napper here under usual circumstances as like you i spend a long time getting to sleep and then waking up again.

The exception to the rule i found was when i was working in the army and i had been up for over 24 hours on my feet then i could grab a power nap
