iYomu Challenge US $1 million in prize money
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about iYomu.com a social networking site for grownups. In that post I alluded to a grand launch being planned:
Apparently the launch is going to be quite remarkable (but the developers were tight lipped).
Well via Read/WriteWeb, I found out about the iYomu challenge, and I’d have to say the developers have lived up to their promise.
Points are earned by completing your profile, answering puzzle questions and referring friends.
From the 10 highest points scorers at the end of the year, 3 will be chosen by the directors of iYomu. The iYomu community will vote for the winner (see the rules for more information). The prize money will be paid over the course of 12 months in equal installments.
“This is the first time a public online social network has been entrusted with making such a significant decision,†says iYomu founder David Wolf-Rooney.
Well, that’s certainly one way to create a buzz….

Hi Meg, I’ve taken a second look at the site and it actually seems like a bit of fun (I enjoy puzzles and networking!)
Since referrals are such a big earner, I thought I’d give you the opportunity to refer me! Could you please send me an invite?
Hi Andy
It’s coming at you – thanks for the opportunity to invite you
Hmmm… I suppose that a referrals scheme is all well and good if you see your “friends” as little more than cash cows.
People Telecom used to have an annoying message on the loop you listen to while on hold — why do we always spend so much time on hold with communications companies? “You can’t put a price on friendship? Yes you can! Refer a friend for $30.” Lovely.
That reminds me that the paper Friends, friendsters, and top 8: Writing community into being on social network sites is well worth reading.
I agree, and I won’t be sending out any invites (though it was nice of Andy to ask). Actually, I won’t be doing the puzzles either!
Thanks for the link to the friends paper. I wrote a little about that myself recently “My Good Friend“
