A Lovely Gesture
My daughter received this card from her teacher at the end of last term (which I discovered in her bag today), and I thought it was such a lovely sentiment that I just had to share it.

You have made me smile this term so many times with little things you say or do. It’s just priceless and gorgeous.
I admire your creativity and individuality. You will give me a perspective I had never thought of before which is brilliant!
I love the way you approach your work with care and pride.
________, I have great faith that you can be whatever you set your mind to. Dream big! Plan big! Reach for the stars. And if you can, let me know how you go.
I am so thrilled to have you in my class this year and I look forward to sharing the success of Year One with you.
Thanks for making me smile – it reminds me why teaching is so rewarding. You’re a gem!
I’m touched that her teacher went to so much trouble to make my daughter feel special (and apparently all the students got one, but surely they couldn’t have been as nice as this 😉 ).

WOW, how wonderful. The important thing is that she made your daughter feel special.
I am sure that more kids could reach their goals if they had encouragement like that from their teachers. The teacher is a gem.

That is so beautiful. She sounds like a super special teacher, to take a bit of time to send out those lovely words to all the kids. Wish there were more like that.

Gemisht – absolutely she is a gem. She has such an enthusiasm for learning too – it’s hard not to pass that on to the kids.
Kelley – yes indeed. Australia would be a better place.

Bettina – isn’t it? I think it’s half the battle if you feel your teacher LIKES you and appreciates your good qualities.
Leigh – I used to be a good student, and I’d get nice comments on my report, but nothing like that. It’s amazing the message that can be delivered in just a few minutes with a carefully drafted note. So often all we hear about is what we DON’T do right, or how we AREN’T perfect, instead of getting encouragement for our strong points.
Babyamore – I like to think so, but of course I’m biased 😉 It’s lovely that someone else recognises her “specialness”. I’d like to believe that something nice could be said about every student, just some might take a bit more work!
Tiff – no way! She’s either moving up with my daughter, or else going to my youngest’s class next year (sorry). Have to start sucking up to the principal now – to ensure it 😉

What a lovely gesture. It is wonderful when educators do something like this to make their charges feel special. This will perhaps be one of those childhoof memories that your daughter will carry to adulthood! I know that i have some such memories myself.

What a smart teacher.
A few smarmy words in a note, and he/she has what might otherwise have been another meddling, blinkered parent (armed with a blog, no less!) in the palm of his/her hand!
Judging by the comments, it will work pretty well across the board! I’ll suggest this to all my teacher friends who are tearing their hair out trying to get intrusive, self-centred (with their children as a logical extension of self, natch) parents to butt out of the business of trying to rehabilitate their little nightmares.
