A Pushy Boyfriend

Little Miss 4 mentioned that she wanted to take some stickers to school to share with her friends. I asked her if she was going to give one to her “boyfriend”.

“Oh, no”, she replied “I dropped him”.
“Oh, why?” I asked (biting my lip to control my laughter).
“He was pushing me around”.

I swear this kid is 4 going on 25….

Are your kids fascinated with the “olden days” (read: when you were a kid all those years ago)?

So were dinosaurs around when you were young?
What computer games did you play when you were my age? Seriously? No computer?
Black and White television – really? And NO Foxtel?!
Who won the Best Actor Oscar in 1948? (“Mum, you should know this”)

I’m tempted to regale them with tales of trudging 6 miles, through blizzards, carrying my slate to the school house… oh, hang on – that was Little House on the Prairie 😉

Still some things don’t change – like some of the cartoons that my kids like that I grew up with. Scooby Doo, Looney Toons, Flintstones. I wonder if my grandkids will watch them too?

    I was in the cafe at the cinema when the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film was coming out and I happened to overhear some ‘children’ discussing it:

    “Oh yeah there’s that ninja movie”
    “What is it? Turtles or something?”
    “Yeah they’re mutants I think.”
    “Like X-Men?”
    “I guess but turtles I suppose”
    “Oh yeah I know those they’ve got painters names!”
    “Really?”

    ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    My girls are carbon copies of me at their age. But they are all so ‘individual’…

    I said to a work colleague at work who is 17 along a similar subject line about my first computer was a commodore 64 although i wanted an Atari 2600.

    She had never heard of either!

    I can remember having the no television and then a black and white television and no computers until I was in my 20s. I am not sure how wide eyes can go, but they both pushed the limits. As you say though the cartoons are a great link with our youth.

    Happy Times. We kept a book for a few years with all the funny things that the kids did and said. Fantastic reading to go back to it.

    I can remember having a black and white TV, then we upgraded to a colour one. But it had no remote. You had to get up to change the channel.

    Our first game “console” was an Atari and we had Pacman and Space Invaders – we thought it was great. And our first computer was one of the first Apples. With a great choice of colours for the screen – green, green or green.

    But sadly, no dinosaurs LOL

    Lee – that’s funny!

    Kelley – fortunately my kids like “my music”. Of course I’m expected to know who sang every song from 1970 to present.

    Greg – oh seriously?! She probably thought you were talking about an early model car!

    Colin – my kids are amazed when I tell them the first computer I had didn’t even have a hard drive! Just twin floppies (and big ones at that)!

    Karen – but you’re an old movie buff – not ’cause you were around then at least!

    Burgo – you’ve got to give the littlies a bit of leeway. But now they know the truth, there’ll be no excuse next time…

    Mr V – Yes! My 6 year old talks about “when I was little”! As if she’s all grown up :)

    Gemisht – I think we were thinner back then 😉 I remember my first “remote” it had a really long cord. My first games console was Intellivision – I remember the skiing game and I used to run over the crowd – and they still cheered! Lip’s recovering (until next time)!
