Finding a Website Developer

Following on from In The Beginning (dLook), our next step was to find a developer up to the task. We were introduced to Ben Stickland from Alliance Software. I can’t stress enough how invaluable Ben & the Alliance Team have been. From the outset, Ben impressed us – both with his technical ability and marketing flair. And he’s full of great ideas. He’s surrounded himself with a great team of developers – some of whom I daresay are bordering on genius. Alister Cameron was a great addition to the team, as he has both technical and creative skills and is now their graphics guru. Looking back at the designs we had before Alister came along is really cringe material.

I find people like Alister intriguing from a left brain vs right brain point of view. I’m definitely a left-brain type. Analytical, methodical, rational (well, as rational as a woman can be about 26 days a month). There’s barely an artistic bone in my body. Any creativity is exercised in a methodical and analytical way (which probably negates it as being defined “creativity”).

I envy bilateral types. But I’ve certainly digressed.

We got numerous quotes for the web design. Alliance certainly weren’t the cheapest, but they did instil the most confidence. We’ve built up a great rapport & it’s good to have techs who are easy to talk to.

Whilst the dLook directory concept was formulated over a number of years, the web design phase took around 6-7 months. But anyone who has been involved in designing a website knows how consuming that process can be. We have lots of exciting plans for the continued development of the site.

Next instalment – How Obits came about.
