We now have 178 members and 203 blogs. Is your blog there?

3. Videos of the Week

Well it is election time, so here are two gems mentioned by Alister Cameron – the first is Kevin Rudd who suspiciously appears to be eating a substance obtained from within his year (I know, eeewww). This is also on Digg if you want to give it a nudge (605 diggs). And the second is Tony Abbott, looking a little…. reptilian.

Speaking of videos, in case you haven’t noticed, YouTube now have an Australian site. Featured quite prominently is the distinctive mug of the Angry Aussie – you can read what he has to say about the video in “I am the new God of YouTube“. Who said Aussies are reluctant to shout out? 😉

4. Other News

NaBloPoMo, is upon us. A post a day. Hopefully I can refrain from too much emergency crap. Wish I’d read Jen’s advice before signing up!Snoskred created an Aussie group, which I’ve joined (there’s 31 of us)

Congratulations to Skellie from Skelliewag. Her meteoric rise to blogging greatness has caught the attention of Darren Rowse, who awarded Skellie with a regular contributer position.

Skellie’s blog is a little over 3 months old, and has attracted close to 1,000 subscribers. This is exceptional growth for a blog in such a crowded niche. It’s full of wonderful hints, and is a recommended read for anyone looking to improve their blog.

CONSUMERS who get their news from the internet are likely to trust a blog for reliability as much as a mainstream media site, the competition watchdog said today.

Nick adds

This is very cool but also scary, what has made the internet great is its total freedom. Will that be eroded by Australian governments and what can we do to ensure that bloggers cannot be held legally liable if they criticise an Australian Company online.

I agree something that needs to be addressed. Full Story: Courier Mail.

This fornight’s Carnival of Australia is being hosted by Megan at Imaginif. The next carnival is being held at Small Office Australia so get your submissions in for Martin by Monday.

Thanks to Tiffany for awarding me the Nice Matters award :)

Nice Matters

I’m having a hard time finding someone to forward this to who hasn’t already been awarded!

Now this award doesn’t look particularly blokey, I know. But if I were to nominate anyone it would be Andrew from On Blogging Australia and Facibus on Blogging, because he’s always supportive of his fellow bloggers and takes a lot of time with his responses to comments on his blog.

And also to Bryce from A Strangled Duck because he does nice things behind the scenes (a digg here, a nomination there, a mention of a blog post on a forum).

So thanks Andrew and Bryce – your “nice” has not gone unnoticed (but I totally understand if you don’t grab the banner).

That’s it for this fortnight!

Meg I’m not sure if Kevin07 needs to dig anymore than he already is! And what a crack up Reptilliabbot is. I am loving this election wind up.

Thanks for reminding everyone about the Carnival of Australia.

Welcome to the new Aussie bloggers on Bumpzee too. It’s great to see so many new blogs.

    Aveagoodweekend.

Phew! And I feel tired just reading all the news!

    I saw Skellie’s gig @ Problogger. Awesome.

Also, I have a question re: the Aus Community Blogroll that you’ve linked there Meg. How do I install that acutally? I just tried and it didn’t work :(

    (Isn’t that a co-incidence b/c I emailed Snoskred about that earlier today!)

  8. Megon 02 Nov 2007 at 6:25 pm

    Hi Karen

If you click on the link, copy the whole page, and then paste it into a “text” widget on your sidebar it seems to work a charm (I just did it).

Let me know if you have any probs.

  9. Karen (Misc Mum)on 02 Nov 2007 at 6:55 pm

    Nope – no luck.

I’ll email you about it if I can’t get it to work. I’ll stop hijacking this topic!

    Hi Meg,

thanks so much for the Nice Matters award – awesome :)

I am not sure that I deserve it – I do think that manners are important, and that how a bloke gets and shows respect is not by puffing up but by being a bit gracious. It is about mutual respect, and being a friend is the best way to get friends.

(and just quietly, and please please don’t tell anyone, but there is a certain enlightened self interest at work there – the women that I like really like being treated with respect… the brownie points are so worth it – and I find that people in general love to be treated as if they are valuable – because they are!).

    Best regards, and thanks, Andrew

    Andrew

Of course you deserve it. What goes around, comes around (well in an ideal world)!

It is a great honour to be on your list of new blogs on the Australian blog community. You are doing a wonderful service to all Australian bloggers. Keep up the great work, and thank you again for the listing.
