Fortnightly Update for 18th October
1. New blogs debuting in the Top 100 Australian Blogs
I also noted that overall the political blogs (not unsurprisingly) saw an increase.
Update: (Long story short) I’ve just realised that Megan’s wonderful blog – Imaginif – does qualify for the Top 100 Australian Blogs and would rank at #68 (with an index of 89,567). This will be included in the next update – well done Megan
2. New blogs on the Australian Blogs Community
Alternative Fuels Australia
2 Paupers
Archies Archive
A.K.A. Mum
Entrepreneurs-Journey.com by Yaro Starak
Health and Nursing Issues Australia
webmenu.com.au Blog
FanFic
Reminder: Anybody who would like to add (or update) the Aussie blogs from Bumpzee to their blogroll can find an A to Z list and a downunder version (Z to A). Snoskred keeps these updated weekly.
We now have 166 members and 191 blogs. Is your blog there?
3. Video of the Week
I am NOT into gaming. But my son sent me to a game review blog run by Ben “Yatzee” Croshaw (an British-born, Aussie based writer) and his reviews crack me up. This review is for a demo of a game called Darkness (strong language warning). Finally, someone who speaks faster than I do!
It seems Yatzee’s reviews caught the eye of Escapist Magazine where he now as a writing gig. For those of you caught up in Halo 3 – Yatzee does a funny Halo 3 review.
4. Other News
It was a busy week with dLook and I should have some exciting news next week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I joined NaBloPoMo, which is a rather odd sounding name! Essentially it means that you make a commitment to post once a day for the whole of November. I usually average one post a day, but somehow the commitment to posting daily is scary. I’d better get some fill-in posts ready 😉
Snoskred created an Aussie group, which I’ve joined (there’s 22 of us)
James Farmer announces that WordCamp is on for Saturday 17th November, 12.00 to 7.00pm in Melbourne <sigh>. See the official WordCamp Melbourne website for details.
WordCamp is for WordPress users (and perhaps those considering a move to WordPress), where there will be a series of presentations and roundtables on all things WordPress.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katie has an interesting post called Seven Reasons your Blog is Scary, which provides some good feedback for blog owners from a user perspective.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good for a chuckle – what Google home page would look like if it had to employ search engine optimisation. (Hat-tip to Andy Beard it has since had 4557 diggs)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This fornight’s Carnival of Australia is being hosted by Kathie at Soho Life (I forgot!). Next edition is at Imaginif, so get your submissions in for Megan by Monday. This fortnight has a theme of Community Safety, but other submissions are still welcomed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to Kin for awarding me the you make me smile award
I’d like to pass this award to Cellobella, because she always manages to make me smile on her blog, by email or in comments.
Also to SwollenPickles, whose blog generally brightens my day (even when he’s been “biatch slapped by Google“).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seems I have been included on Enkay’s list of Top 50 Female bloggers, which includes a handful of Aussie women. The list has grown to 86, and looks like it will soon be at 100.
Enkay is looking for new blogs for the list, so contact him if you know of female bloggers that might be eligible. The list is based on PageRank (groan), Technorati and Alexa.
That’s it for this fortnight!

I was waiting for you to post so I could say YAY Jen for getting into the list
And to boo Alexa 😛
Ohhhhh – I was so sure I was going to make the list this fortnight. Where did I go wrong in my calculations? I scored me at around 90,000 (well, I didn’t because I can’t even work the calculator – dragged the accountant husband out of bed and made him do the calculations last night). Should I fire him as my accountant Meg? Don’t really want to divorce him because I’m rather partial to him.
Are you using my http://www.imaginif.com.au/~ima33724/blog/ addy or the old gummy one that the web developer wrongly used but it is still floating around without a redirect on it!!!!
Yes YAY to Jen and to you too Meg for being a top 50 Enkay.
Thanks for the shout about the Carnival of Australia. I’m also hosting the All Women Carnival on Monday.
Leigh – I totally agree
Megan – As you know, I just emailed you about this. Thanks
Thanks for the linkie!
I don’t visit Technorati anymore and I feel the rankings are flawed now that they scrap old links. But congrats on getting on the list – I can only hope one day I’ll be on a list when it comes to blogging!
Ah Katie like this one (at number 81) 😉
You’re welcome for the link, and thanks for your congrats.
The list has been updated so grab your fresh still hot and steaming copy now! 😉
Cheers,
Snoskred
Woah! Thanks for adding me into the top 100! What an honor!
Now you’ve made ME smile!
Thanks Meg and right back atcha.
How are you finding 2.3?
CB xx
[…] Meg awarded me the You Make Me Smile Award! Thank you. It made me smile. […]
Hey CB – ooh good 😀
Re 2.3 I’d be happier if I could sort out the conflict with my plugins. I’ve narrowed down the main offender – it’s the table plugin, which is obviously one that makes my life a lot easier every fortnight, so I’m not prepared to forgo. Might have to see if there’s an alternative. Apart from that, it’s all good.
How about you?
Snoskred – thanks, mate.
Albert – congratulations, and you’re welcome.
Thanks again Meg! I like your work!
Oh Meg, I just came in to pick up a link and see you’ve amended with an edit. Does that mean it’s okay for me to tell everyone, I made the list. YAHOO. I’m a newbie (how do you spell that – new bee) with my favorite Monk and Jen. Great company. Oh, now I can go tell my other blogger friends too.
I’m so excited. Thanks Meg.
SP – Thanks 😀
Megan – LOL – I think the term is “n00b” 😀
Yeah Megan, Meg and all the others.
Boo to Alexa. What is it with those guys.
Great work again Meg. Highly appreciated. Love some of the links.
Hi Colin – thanks mate 😀
An actual commitment to post every day during november – i post everyday on at least one blog but thats without actually having to – oh the horror!
Hi Greg – it’s the “without having to” that makes it easier!
Well done on joining NaBloPoMo! I did it last year, met some wonderful bloggers and can’t wait to do it all over again soon.
I’m impressed I made it into the Top 50 Women’s blogs – hopefully one day my little blog will be eligible in the Top 100 Aussie blogs, but we’ll get there!
AB – Congrats on making the list
I’m enjoying your blog & note that you had a successful trip to Sydney (you could have included the T-Shirt in the pic though)!
