Google PageRank Update Underway

Published by at 10:12 am under Google,Google PageRank

For those of you interested in the Google PageRank metric, you’ll be pleased to know that the PageRank update is in progress (this happens about four times a year).

Google PageRank is a measure of how important Google sees a particular page on a website, and is determined by the number of websites linking to a page and also the authority of the originating website.
You may not see the new rank automatically as Google has a number of data centres that update independently. So depending on which data centre you access will depend on the number displayed.

If you are curious, you can check your PageRank according to various data centres. So far no change indicated for dLook (currently a PR4), and Obits (PR3 to PR4).

This is my first update since starting this blog (so currently PR-0), but it looks as though I’m going to have a PR5.

Frankly, I’m surprised that such a high initial PageRank would be given (in comparison to dLook say), but I guess Google have their algorithm and a PR5 certainly isn’t atypical for a blog. I’ll take it :)

April 2007 Google Page Rank update in progress

The Google Page Rank update for April 2007 is underway. Google Page Rank updates mean little for SERP, but are usually celebrated throughout the websphere and the blogsphere as Page Rank transforms into money. With revenue programs like Text Link …

Actually two sites I bootstrapped last year all went from PR0 (in sand box) to PR5 after one update — without any paid advertisement. Lots of link love certainly helps, especially when you can leverage from your existing high PR sites.

I was just wondering yesterday when we would see an update. Looks like no changes for me either. but my traffic from google is better than ever..so I’m sure I will live.

Way to go on the PR5 :)

Scott – it sure is a surprise! But as I suspected, not out of the ordinary.

Leigh – thanks! Glad to hear you’re getting lots of Google traffic – “content is king” as they say.

    :(
hmm I am a little annoyed, I dropped down a Page Rank to 4 whilst I have at least 3x more high quality links coming in than last time when I got a 5?

Googles algorithm is a little odd to say the least
oh well, another 3 months to improve.

    Alborz

    That’s a bummer :(

  10. Alborzon 01 May 2007 at 9:09 pm

    Yes it is a bummer
the weird thing is though, the last two day my traffic has been breaking records getting in the 15,000 UVs a day bracket, so i dont know whats going on!

I did notice though that Google has given lots of my important pages PR4/3s so i guess thats a benefit?

    Wow – that’s HUGE!

By the way, I’ve added your blog for the next update to the Index – it would be top 50 for sure (sorry not to have included it earlier)
