Un-Happy Feet – the Cost of a Cinema Visit

Published by at 6:03 pm under rant

I took my three girls to see “Happy Feet” today. Expecting a large crowd (weekend, school holidays, overcast day) I thought I was very clever booking online. I could choose the seats I wanted, the tickets would be ready to pick up – no queues. The online service was good, but the reality was there was virtually NO queue and even LESS of an audience.

Booking online (which cost an extra $1 per ticket), enabled me to see the whole cost of the outing, which wouldn’t have been so evident if I’d bought the tickets and the munchies separately. Sure, I could have taken munchies from home, but it’s not quite the same – is it? And we don’t go to the movies very often, so it’s a bit of a treat.

The movie was great. A little long for a 3 & 5 year old, but we all really enjoyed it. Plenty for the grownups – nostalgic upbeat music, subtle sexual references, Lovelace (modelled on Barry White) and the Latino amigos. And environmental undertones which even my 5 year old “got”.

So the cost of the visit:

Adult ticket $15.00
3 x child ticket $32.40
3 small combos $26.70
Booking Fee $ 4.00
Total $78.10

Seeing my 3 year old dancing in the aisles facing the audience – “Priceless
